The Head of this agency was appointed by the mayor of Denver 3 years ago because she is the mayor's ex-girlfriend. She in turn appoints her personnal friends to key administrative positions who have no experience or knowledge of child welfare. None of the friends she hired was for less than 80K and they are all making over 100K by now. Employees have not been given so much as a cost of living raise for over 4 years until recently which they got a 2.9 percent which the mayor opposed but city council vetoed his decision. Mayor's ex-girlfriend got an 18k raise this year and others got around 12k raises. In 2007, 2 children were murdered by caretakers who had prior social services involvment and cases were heavily publicized in the news media. Administrators decided that reports of abuse were not worth investigating. Agency leaders lied to the news media and the public about specific events and they hid behind privacy laws. Local juvenile court judges and magistrates have also lashed out in the press about how Denver Human Services hasn't done enough to protect children. This doesn't even the the children who injured and Denver Human Services did nothing. This agency is run by amatuers and they have secretly campaigned against veteran workers in efforts to reduce agency costs increasing liability. It is one of the few agencies in the country that is "accredited". Amazing! Denver Human Services has an 80% employee turnover rate because the morale is so low and employees are disillusioned. The agency head does not hold any of her administrators accountable for anything and simply re-assigns them and protectes them and their high wages. The story continues and the agency continues to be monitored by an "outside" agency from whom Denver Human recieves funds. The leadership has no integrity, and has lost trust of the citizens of Denver and other agencies thoughout the city. More information on the particular child fatalities can be found by contacting The Denver Post and KMGH Channel 7 in Denver. It is probably the worst run social services agency in the nation. This agency is broken and cannot be fixed and needs to be re-built from the ground up.
