I think the oppertunities are there to advance in the right rate/job. The leadership is ok.
Save everything that anyone gives you and put it where it can't be destroyed.
The Navy has many benefits opportunities, however even in a structured environment there are cons.
Consider all the benefits, and of course the stability of the outside world.
Because its what my opinion is.
Choose the right job that fits your interests.
Honest assessment and the nature of the world today impacts the mission and goals of the Navy.
If your young and need marketable skills-DO IT!
I do not believe in promortion based on simply more positions open in senior leadership and selecting anybody to fill them because they have to.
get the most out of it in a 1 or two tour hitch and join the reserves.
Leadership - Responsibility is never taken it seems, but control is the buzz word. Environment - I have no problems with Pay - Fair and competitive Stability - Its the U.S. Navy, we want to be stay the best. Advancement - Performance is irrelevant to promotion.
Great people, good schedules and some fascinating work at times. Don't expect to get Executive or Management status any time soon. Although private industry is what the civilian world wants to replicate, it's far from it speaking from experience.
Like any job, it has its ups and downs.
Great stepping stone for starting a career. Great oppertunity for school. Great benefits.
pay could be better for the hours we work, you never stay in the same place for long, advancement depends on you job.
see the world for free, enjoy what you do why not try it?
Times are changing, The Navy is a great job to build a fundation but I want better things in life and I can no longer advance myself at my current job.
It's what you might out of the Navy you can go far or you can just exist and do nothing
The United States Navy has many great leadership "concepts".
It has been a great organization to work for. I have been in almost 11 years and have moved up fast.
Keep an open mind!!! listen, watch , and learn, you will be up the ranks fast.
The United States Navy gave me trainning and educaional opportunities that i would otherwise not have had if i did not enlist.
Make sure that you fully consider whether or not you want to enter a war territory because attending is eminent.
Naturally being in the military builds one's leadership skills/qualities if they had some before coming in. The environment that I was placed in was not what I was expecting or told to expect and it was for the worse not better. The pay isn't anything special for someone without high rank or a lot of years in but its ok I guess. The stability is a huge plus because no matter what your going to get a paycheck and the benefits are unbeatable pretty much. Advancement isn't bad depending on what rate it is but there are some ohter pro's and con's to the advancement system that could be discussed further.
Be very skeptical of what a recruiter will tell you and make sure you don't put your ambitions/dreams out there too easily because it will then be easy for them to be played upon. Be skeptical about what your told before you swear in.
Stability in an unsure job market makes the Navy a good Job.
Investigate your job before signing up.
I love what I do. Its been a great trip for the last 5 years. I am going to night school... all paid for. Once my time is up, I am moving on. Not for any bad rerason. It has been a great stepping stone. I got my brother to enlist, and would recomend it to all.
Dont come in with any expectations. You never know where this journey will take you.
26 years of service... I think it deserves it
