Overall the Air Force leadership and environment is great but occassionally units within the Air Force can suffer under poor local leadership.

The Air Force was a great organization to work for, but after 23 years, it was time to retire and pursue a new career where I can spend more time with my familiy. I mainly left the Air Force so I will have time to do something else, closer to home.

Advice for prospective applicants:

I think the Air Force can be a great opportunity to learn a trade and work with people from a variety of cultures. I had assignments in Spain, Germany, Korea and Turkey, and enjoyed having the chance to get to know some of the people better than the casual traveler on a two week vacation. The retired part comes after 20 years serving your country. I am proud of my time in the service.

I have spent 24 years serving on the team of the single most powerful force in the world next to God. My leadership abilities have been proven and tested, however on the civilian sectorI am not as appreciated. When I retired I never thought supervising myself would be so tough. I cannot explain despite the qualifications people read on my resume when they find out I am retired they think crusty and old. Though I can run circles around most folks I am considered an anomaly of sorts. This position does not pay well, nor is as appreciated with a family of 5 and one on the way.

Half my life spent there and created the person I am today
