Gracias, Lucero.
Yes, I am proud to have visualized a possibility (Obama's presidency) that did become a reality - and I am a Republican. Both McCain and president elect Obama were formidable candidates. It was up to Americans to choose the path they wanted the nation to take; they did.
A year and a half before the election I posted on the New York Times' blogosphere Obama was the Democrat's Arnold Schwarzenegger but with Afro roots, and certain to defeat Hillary Clinton, who then was the media darling. It also happened. We should all be proud of our nation and the principles it just have proven not only represent but live by. And I still am a Republican.
Thanks for your comment, Lucero. "Muchas gracias, amiga."

In Search of Redemption in America.....
By Luis Vega
At times countries, like people, have feelings. The current unpredictable presidential primary cycle proves, after the war, America seeks redemption.
http://dictionary.die.net/redemption
We are a culture of reinvention, of optmism, a can-do society never defined by tragedy but by success. Unconsciously American voters want to move beyond the dark shadow of 9/11 and of candidates anchored in the recent past. An anti status-quo crowd.
Both dominant political parties, Democrat and Republican, have top contenders who are outsiders, non-traditional candidates, the embodiment of change. Some powerful living symbols of our not so long ago national sins: racial exclusion (Obama), the Vietnam war (McCain). More than a typical election cycle, this period and its candidates provide political/historical catharsis.
http://psychology.about.com/od/cindex/g/catharsis.htm
Today American presidential elections are a global political spectacle for billions of people who understand the impact America still has on their lives. Because nothing compares with the power of American democracy in action.
Now some prominent television critics are saying politics have replaced Hollywood entertainment as Americans' main distraction since the writers strike has literally stopped film and television production in the country.
Reality shows like "American Idol" and "Survivor" have morphed into national politics. Who will win at the end? Obama, Hillary, McCain or Romney? TV ratings are high.
As the whole world watches live American democracy at work, redemption might be our best (national) defense. The world watches with interest and hope.
