That is so stupid, its just a rosary. How stupid can the government it. Just because people that are in gangs wear, that doesnt mean its gang related. I mean please, some people in gangs do go to church you know. I mean please. Gang members also drive cars, use the toilet, wear jeans. Does that mean if we do those things or wear anything they wear we are in a gang. What is this world coming to? Just plain stupid.

...not being a catholic myself, I can't speculate one way or the other. However isn't this taking it a bit far, to seperate church from state?? I have many catholic friends, and have attend Mass along with them on occasion, and I see nothing to imulate, or simulate gang afiliation.

The irony of this rosary story is how Catholicism is loaded with symbolism and with voudou or voudon. There's a good book by UCLA Professor Don Cosentino that unveils how Catholic rituals were relayed over eras of history and across global miles by the oral as well as documented transmission of beliefs. The book's title is "Sacred Art of Haitian Voudou." Good stuff.

Now I'm confused. Is Saint Paul supposed to be a gang member in that conversation?

You can't know that. Maybe they wear the rosaries because of how deeply religious they are!

I'm not really sure that reading in church is covered by freedom of speech...not to mention it seems quite rude. I highly doubt Jesus Christ (since he's now part of the discussion) would read a newspaper in church.

If this continues, students will eventually be banned from wearing jeans or sweatshirts or Nikes or whatever "because the gangs do it." I once got into trouble in junior high for wearing flannel PJs. Go figure.

i suppose im not into the "new catholic" stuff. my mom came from a strict cathloic school/upbringing and unless you were a preist or a nun, it was sacreligious to 'wear' beads as a necklace. it is not ornimate such a jewelry...they are prayer beads.
now...ive not heard the gang thing...its not disrupting school activities by being tacky so let the chick go to school...tacky and all
