Senate Advances 3.9% Pay Raise Bill
Whether or not the bill passes will be determined by President Bush.

The federal pay increases of 2.9 percent for civilian workers and 3.4 percent for military personnel proposed earlier this year by President Bush might be seeing an additional boost – if Bush chooses to sign the bill approved by the US Senate on Saturday, September 27th. The bill would ratchet up the salaries of civilian employees of the federal government by 3.9 percent; since the bill was already approved by the Senate, it will be moved to Bush’s office to either be approved or vetoed.
This bill suggests a 3.9 percent increase for federal salaries across the board; an unusual proposition, if you consider the fact that the military pay boost is usually higher than that seen by the civilian government community. The 2009 Defense Authoration Bill (S.3001) also passed on Saturday, which proposed the same salary increase.
This pay increase would take effect on January 1st of 2009.
Interestingly enough, an increase of 3.9 percent is actually higher than GovCentral’s highest prediction from our 2009 Salary Increases article. Stay tuned for a re-calculation of 2009 federal salaries for each pay grade on the GS Pay Scale later this week.
Thanks to Government Executive for much of the information referenced in this article.

the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Great if you are a civil service worker or military. The military need it more than the civil service people need it.
