Posted about 1 year ago It is apparent that once military veterans become eligible to utilize Veteran's Administration benefits that all seems to go awry. I have waited 3 years to get VA disability and Social Security disability benefits and to date haven't seen a cent. Further because I gave 28 years of military service, mostly active, but because I retired out of the Reserves I must wait 3 more years to turn 60 before the pension is paid. I have been diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis and have great difficulty in my mobility and have had 3 tax years of a $0.00 income. I have gone to my Congressman and Senators for help and nothing has occurred. It seems once the Veteran is retired he/she is left to fend for themselves. I have tried to find jobs, but with my disability it has been nearly impossible to secure one. This is nothing short of an outrage. I have said all I need to. Thank you. |

Posted about 1 year ago Thank you for your service LRPharm54. Does anyone work for the Veterans Health Administration? Maybe you know of some program specifics that may be of help. Has anyone been through a similar experience?

Posted about 1 year ago I got to admit that way back in 84 when I got an honorable discharge after finishing my enlistment I had to get into the VA for dilantin. That's because two years earlier I had gone through a six minth coma which left me seizure prone. Once with the VA I heard about vocational rehabilitation and figured a colledge degree would make life easier. It's just that I couldn't get the VA to act so I joined the Disabled American Vets. IN Albuquerque they are on the same building as the VA and got me in computer science. The DAV even helped me get a CDL driver's liscense after an outlaw civilian shot me with his Colt 45 Army and made me drop out of school. They even helped my wife fifteen years ago when the outdated dilantin I got from the VA let me have that seizure when I was trying to exercise that tall apalosa mare we had and get into a six month coma.

Posted about 1 year ago I guess I should make a warning. You got to be sure the VA hospital is worth it. I know there is a diference between Albuquerque, Amarillo and Dallas. It's just after treatment in Albuquerque I learned it was being investigated.

Posted 9 months ago I thank you for your service and pray you find help soon. I think it is an awful estate of affairs that we can not help all of our veterans. This is why many are homeless. I also think that we should do more for our federal and civil employees; they to are veterans. The roles that are Federal Officers play now make them just as much a veteran as our military members. I say this with no disrespect. I just think we should do more for all federal employees including military. I feel like a disabled, former federal employee sometimes, but can get no help, but not as disabled as many other veterans and federal employees. This is why I continue to serve and look actively to continue government service. As long as I live I will serve this country and help our citizens.

Posted 8 months ago To LRPharm54 and any individual who has served, or is serving in our armed services - God Bless you, your families and the sacrifices you've made. I was employed with the Commonwealth of VA for fourteen years and three of those years I worked for Disability Determination Services; which handles all claims for Social Security Disability. The claims process is long and frustrating for everyone. I would be happy to provide a workshop, and volunteer as a guest speaker, to any groups interested in a question/answer type of forum. I have made it an important priority to help educate people about their benefits, what their benefits do, and more importantly, what their benefits "don't" do for them. Your employer, yes, I am also referring to Uncle Sam here, gives you this false impression of providing you with fantastic healthcare benefits/coverage. Does your employer help to educate you how you protect your income? Does your employer encourage you to have at least one supplemental health insurance policy to protect you and your family? Does your employer bring in guest speakers to help educate you and answer your questions about how you can be better prepared for the rising cost of health care coverage? Does your employer tell you, you can afford a supplemental health insurance policy for about the same cost as two cappuccinos? As you can see, this is an area I am very passionate about!

Posted 4 months ago Don't think this will help your situation, but maybe others. I started my VA disability process before my discharge. It was alot easier to complete the process then, rather than after. If you're gonna be a bear....be a grizzly...
