Volunteering, is it worth it?
Posted about 1 year ago Trying to get classified for Government positions can be hard without specific skills and experience. Volunteer work as credit is always mentioned, but only counted as partial time towards your total experience. So, is your time better spent going to college to trump the experience needed, or finding a volunteer job that has the specifics you need (if there is one even available). I find volunteer work to be rewarding, but volunteer work that actually fits the classification requirements is hard to come by. Has anyone accredited their experience through volunteering and been able to receive a government job from it? I found that doing both works wonders. |

Posted 11 months ago Great point bchaz1, things that are not so cynical are the most rewarding.

Posted 11 months ago I think it's a better approach to do both. The more experience the better. Usually most colleges will give you credit for volunteering.

Posted 10 months ago I know when I was in college we had to volunteer as a requirement for a freshman class that I had. It was required for the course and a good portion of the grade. I think it is more beneficial from that standpoint as jzuk said because the benfits are better because you see it from both sides.

Posted 10 months ago This isn't to say that volunteering isn't worth it without college credit. You can still put these items on your resume, and they will help you get a good job.

Posted 10 months ago Yes that is true they will help you as well as others for the volunteer work that was performed. But also the satifaction you recieve for a job well done is always worth at the end of the day knowing that you helped others with whatever job you did.
