Team Building

Posted 11 months ago I have yet to be a part of a work environment that utilizes "Team Building" events, other than typical company picnics and other regular social gatherings. A friend of mine however works for a company that strives on team building and never talks as if it is a pain to participate, but rather enjoys it. What are your experiences with team building? |

| Posted 11 months ago It seems the President's Management Agenda has been misinterpreted to forego the team buidling concept for competition in day to work activities in agencies. My agency mentions "team work" but really doesn't mean it when the performance of my region is measured against the performance of other regions. How ridiculous! Each region has its own distinct demografic, economic, etc. chracteristics. Team Building is a nice concept and I would love to see it implemented in my agency. Anselm |

| Posted 11 months ago I have researched Google, Inc. to the point that I desire a job with them, but do not want to loose my time in Civil Service and move just yet. I know that Google strives on this feature and aims to make the work place more like a stimulating environment, which involves insuring that various aspects are in place to cater employees with what they enjoy most (exercise equipment, music, pets allowed, snacks everywhere, etc.). | Posted 11 months ago What sort of position are you interested in at Google joatmon? Why are you looking at the private sector as opposed to the public sector for your next job? |

| Posted 11 months ago I am interested in web application development, which covers a broad spectrum. I am looking at the private sector because the Government retirement system is weak when compared to my other options. Also, I have yet to feel challenged in Civil Service. According to Maslow's theory, and many other professionals within psychology, our main drive for working is achievement based. |

| Posted 11 months ago Interesting - do you find that your public sector peers share your sentiment, or are you a lone ranger so to speak? Also, there is so much talk about moving to a performance based pay system for federal workers. Would such a change help make federal agencies more "achievement based"? |

| Posted 11 months ago Most co-workers talk of the desire to move, but feel locked into the system mostly because of the job securtiy. The "Pay for Performance" is a good concept, but the way it will work within Civil Service is nothing like the private sector. Basically, if you want your previous step pay raise to happen with NSPS you will have to make your boss happy and hope for the "Pay for Performance" to work in its place. Most private companies with "Pay for Performance" in place actually allow a large pay difference for performers versus non-performers, and you might go from a good month to a bad month. |
