According to some recent news stories the DoD is deploying several GIs who have had little time to recover from prior wounds. What should be the Department's line on this? Is it necessary?

I had to edit the message...
Well, all what I know is that kind of Article is very pessimistic. I don't think Soldiers can be badly took care of when you take a look at the facilities, it looks better than the one in Maryland they have shown in the news, this article also made me think about who is restricting the budget for the troops per example. But I think the really issue is the negativism of the person who wrote the article.

Second edit : I wonder something else, the article is not telling us what is going on, not even the media, maybe the 2 GIs with torn rotator cuff could be just doing some paper works.
I don't believe the whole Army is running after the insurgents, the reality doesn't look like it, there is humanitarian help, school being open...
I guess GI can also be used as momentary "teachers" or assistant.

I don't know, and no one is telling us really in details...

Great vid right there :

I cannot speak on behalf of all the military, however, in my 18 months of experiance in the throughout the middle east, for the majority G.I.'s are given proper care before returned to full duty and fully evaluated. The only area where I think the military is struggling is "healthcare" for deployed troops mental status. We do undergo mental evaluations prior to returning home, but the evaluations should be given both short-term and long.

as an active service member I can tell you that the medicare system is still learing about the effects of long term mental effects on long term situations in constant stress and traumatic situations. But at least we are recognizing these effects this war unlike wars in the past
