I just read that Spielberg stepped down from his role as artistic adviser for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He cited China’s mis-management of the Darfur crisis as his main reason.

Apparently, quite an uproar has been generated in China over this.

What do you think: commendable action, or a little strange, considering that he is merely a hollywood movie-maker?

I think it is a little rash to assume China should take care of Darfur. Is he planning to move from the US?

It's sad that the Olympics should have politics in it at all.  Still, politics have always seemed to creep in, example:  Hitler when the Olympics were held in Germany.   This year an Iranian wouldn't swim in the same pool as an Israeli even though they were swimming in opposite sides of the pool!
