Posted 7 months ago I read endless articles about being in the middle of a recession for months, and now the First Quarter 2008 GDP shows an increase. What is going on here?? |

| Posted 7 months ago First off . DON'T believe the media. They helped screw up the economy! That is their business. They are good at it. The American people want to hear a good rumor. They love to stretch the truth and they stretch it so far it turns into BS. Most Americans fall for it and that is why we are in the situation we are in today. The Democrap party helped the media for years. They love to feed the false info esspecially on an election year. All you have to do Kyle, is as long as you have a job, live life to the fullest and don't believe the hype. They don't print the truth. |

| Posted 7 months ago I'm in complete agreement here. But is there a such thing as responsible journalism? Is it possible to resuscitate an ethical media? Part of me hopes so. I also believe that the American people also want to hear accurate information. Maybe independent news networks are the way to go - but they, too, are so reactionary and bitter. |

| Posted 6 months ago Well...to some extent, yes. Keep in mind that the article you linked to in the first post looks to be a Washington Post article. The problem isn't that responsible reporting isn't happening, at least in my opinion. The problem is that the more sensational items get EMPHASIZED over those that are less interesting to the broad public, who in general would rather receive entertainment than information
It's easy to be angry at the media...but I'm more pissed at the public. If the majority of people WEREN'T more interested in finding out how many pounds overweight Brittany Spears is, or how day 46843564484651 of investigations of Michael Jackson went, or the latest apocalyptic theory on how orange juice will kill us all by giving us rectal cancer, then maybe, just maybe the media would stop focusing on them and tell us about topics that actually matter. Or maybe not...
One thing I have found out for SURE, is that if you want more accurate, informative, and intellectual reporting, stick to WRITTEN media. Its not perfect of course, and its still biased (what isn't?), but I think the fact that reading requires you to use your brain--instead of just staring at your TV attempting to learn by osmosis--has pushed those sources to provide a greater number and variety of articles/pieces, each with more depth than will be found on your toob. The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."
"Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried."

| Posted 6 months ago I don't think it's the American media who helped screw up the economy. I think the President who told us the best way to sacrifice for the war is to spend, spend, spend at home is responsible, as is the cost of the Iraq occupation. |

| Posted 6 months ago MEDIA LOVES GOOD ECONOMY, NOT BAD ONE.
I WILL PROVE IT
Media industry runs on advertising $$$$
Advertising $$$ available when business is good. BUSINESS BAD ADVERTISERS CUT BACK THIS IS A GENUINE FACT
BAD ECONOMY=LOW MONEY FOR BUSINESSES LOW MONEY FOR BUSINESS=LOW MONEY FOR ADVERTISING LOW MONEY FOR ADVERTISING=LOW MONEY FOR MEDIA LOW MONEY FOR MEDIA=UNHAPPY FAT MEDIA CATS

| Posted 6 months ago MrsTooTs is right in one respect. Yet the fact that the media loves (and relies upon) a good, stable economy to function optimally does not negate the fact that certain sects of the media have also capitalized on the failing economy. (Modus Tollens) |

| Posted 2 months ago The media has its good points and bad points. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot have been one sided instead of showing the whole picture. Like the economic package, could there have been something more that could have been reported lately about what the package's sweetners. Remember back during President Clinton's situation? Many people were reporting things too fast, so they had to change their stories. They were so much in a hurry to report without investigation.
