GS paygrade promotion rules

Posted 2 months ago I have just been promoted and my supervisor has opted to allow my new pay to be based on my Highest Pay Rate. Doesn't that mean that to find what my starting pay is for the new position you take the HPR (5step7), go to the new pay grade (6) and find the closest $ amount that is not below the (5step7) and go up two steps?? That would make me a 6step6, correct? Or am I wrong on this? There's a conflict of about $2000 difference in what HR says I will start at and what I think I'm suppose to start at. |

| Posted 2 months ago You don't necessarily go up an additional two steps. Take you current rate, GS5(7) and look at the GS6 scale. Find the GS6 pay that is at least 4 percent above your GS5(7) pay. That is the normal promotion ratio. According to the 2008 Rest of US scale, that would be GS6(5). If you're gonna be a bear....be a grizzly... |
