Pluto was downsized from being one of the 9 planets.  Does anyone remember why?  What is the difference between that and a regular old everyday planet?

I remembered that it had something to do about its orbit, so I looked it up:

The scientists agreed that for a celestial body to qualify as a planet:

    • it must be in orbit around the Sun

    • it must be large enough that it takes on a nearly round shape

    • it has cleared its orbit of other objects

Pluto was automatically disqualified because its highly elliptical orbit overlaps with that of Neptune. It will now join a new category of dwarf planets.

I think it was just a petty reason and I resent it because the little man who discovered it, was from my hometown - Clyde Tombaugh and he was so content to live a long life always believing of the discovery, only to have it stripped from him shortly before he died.

It makes one wonder the difference between the dwarf planet and a regular-sized planet.  (Could there be such a thing as an oversized planet?)
